The Production Journey of Leather Jackets

Choosing the Right Materials

The foundation of every great jacket begins with the quality of its materials. At Northern Hide, we carefully select the materials used throughout our collection to ensure they meet our standards for durability, comfort, and appearance. Depending on the design, our products may incorporate genuine leather, premium faux leather, wool blends, cotton fabrics, high-quality linings, and durable hardware components. Material selection plays an important role in determining how a jacket looks, feels, and performs over time. For this reason, we pay close attention to texture, finish, flexibility, and overall quality before materials are approved for use in our products.

Material Inspection

Before materials move into production, they are thoroughly reviewed to help maintain consistency across our collection. This inspection process involves evaluating the condition, appearance, and suitability of the materials for their intended purpose. Factors such as texture, thickness, color consistency, flexibility, and finishing are carefully assessed. By reviewing materials before they are used, we are able to maintain quality standards and reduce the likelihood of imperfections in the finished garment. This step is an important part of our commitment to delivering products that meet customer expectations.

Material Processing

After passing inspection, materials are prepared according to the specifications required for each design. This stage ensures that fabrics, linings, and other components are ready for accurate pattern cutting and assembly. Proper preparation helps maintain consistency throughout the production process and contributes to the overall fit, comfort, and durability of the finished jacket. Attention to detail during this stage helps create a strong foundation for every product before construction begins.

Cleaning & Finishing Preparation

The appearance and longevity of a jacket depend greatly on how its materials are handled before assembly. As part of our preparation process, materials are carefully cleaned and conditioned where appropriate to help preserve their natural characteristics and maintain a refined appearance. This stage helps ensure that fabrics and leather components are prepared for construction while maintaining their intended texture and finish. By taking the time to properly prepare materials, we help support the overall quality and presentation of the final product.

Design & Pattern Development

Every jacket begins with a carefully planned design. Pattern development is a crucial stage that determines the overall shape, structure, and fit of the finished garment. Each pattern is created with attention to proportion, comfort, and style, ensuring that the final product reflects the intended design while remaining practical for everyday wear. Accurate pattern development also helps maintain consistency across different sizes, allowing customers to enjoy a reliable fit regardless of the style they choose.

Cutting & Construction

Once the design and patterns have been finalized, materials are carefully cut according to the required specifications. Precision during the cutting process is essential because it directly influences the fit and overall structure of the garment. After cutting, individual panels are assembled to form the jacket. During construction, attention is given to seam placement, panel alignment, and overall garment structure. .

Detailing & Assembly

As the jacket begins to take shape, additional design elements are incorporated to complete the garment. Features such as collars, pockets, cuffs, zippers, buttons, and other hardware components are carefully installed and adjusted to ensure proper placement and functionality. These details play an important role in both the appearance and practicality of the finished jacket.

Inner Lining

Comfort is an essential aspect of every jacket we offer. The inner lining is selected to complement the design while enhancing the overall wearing experience. A properly fitted lining contributes to comfort, ease of movement, and the overall structure of the garment.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance is one of the most important stages in our process. Before any product is approved for shipment, it undergoes a detailed inspection designed to identify and address any issues that may affect quality or performance. During this review, we assess stitching consistency, hardware functionality, lining placement, sizing accuracy, and overall finishing. We also examine the product’s appearance to ensure it reflects the design and quality standards associated with Northern Hide. If any issue is identified during inspection, corrective action is taken before the item is cleared for shipment.
